Friday, June 11th, Associated Builders and Contractors proudly graduated 107 registered apprentices and trainees in the trades of Electrical, Plumbing/Pipefitting, Electronic Systems Technician, and Sheet Metal. Graduation from our apprenticeship program does not come easily, as these students have worked over 40 hours per week and attended school two nights a week for the past 4 years. We recognize how difficult working and going to school simultaneously is, and we commend them for completion of this challenging program, and beginning their journeyman careers in construction.
Continuing a career in construction in these times shows determination and commitment to the dreams of their future. We are gratified that these men and women have stuck with their education, and that their employers, ABC Member Contractors supported them during the time they were going to school. This is proof that the “hands-on training” the contractors give the apprentices, coupled with the classroom instruction they get in the ABC facility, is truly a recipe for success.
Please join us in congratulating our apprentices’ accomplishments.
Creating a contiguous transition from high school into post-secondary education/training in the skilled trades is both an ongoing goal and a challenge for construction trade apprenticeship programs throughout the country.
Associated Builders and Contractors of San Diego and Vista-based North County Trade Tech High School are attempting to meet that challenge head on, by partnering in the development of a charter high school, now in its second year, that is bringing career technical education into the 21st century and back into the high school classroom.
