October is 'Careers in Construction Month'

Monday, October 1, 2018

ABC San Diego joins the construction industry in celebrating “Careers in Construction Month” in October, an annual observance designated to increase public awareness and appreciation of construction craft professionals and the entire construction workforce. The construction industry is one of our nation’s largest industries, employing more than five million individuals in the United States. Construction is also California’s second largest employer.

The construction industry is facing a serious shortage of trained craft professionals, with a growth rate twice that of all other industries, making it one of the nation’s fastest growing career opportunities. Associated Builders and Contractors San Diego is doing its part to recruit and train the workforce of the future through our apprenticeship program.

Construction provides an opportunity for well-paying jobs that can support a family, without accruing crushing student loan debt due to on the job training combined with rigorous classroom education. ABC San Diego empowers individuals to train for a high wage career, transform their interests into marketable skills and succeed as professionals with national certifications.

ABC San Diego is an active participant in the National Center for Construction Education and Research’s “Build Your Future” campaign to enlighten the public including parents, high school counselors, and workforce training organizations about careers in the construction industry, and provide a path for individuals to become construction craft professionals through apprenticeship training programs including the Associated Builders and Contractors San Diego Apprenticeship Training Academy.

ABC San Diego calls on its members, allied professionals, partners, vendors, and especially educators and parents to share our website and materials with all potential apprentices. We welcome military veterans, non-traditional students, and a diverse array of applicants including women to explore your potential as a construction professional.

See our website full of information about becoming a construction profession at Build Your Future San Diego today.
