Five Things About...
Electrical Contractor at Rowan Electric
Years of Experience: 35
Hometown: Crowley Lake, CA
How did you get started in your career?
I was my dad’s first employee at age 9 – Electrical work is “in the blood.” My dad saw the value of a formal education if it was for a specific purpose. He encouraged me to learn how to “do business” so I could apply business to the skill of the craft.
What about your profession do you think would surprise people the most?
How much effort and time goes into planning every project.
If you could only take one tool to a job site with you, what would it be?
What do you like to do when you aren't working?
Spend time with my family and all things outdoors: hiking, camping, and hunting.
Who is your mentor and what is the most valuable thing you have learned from them?
My dad (Paul B. Rowan) was my mentor – The most valued lesson was witnessing him live out a covenant with God - Love God with all you are and love others as yourself. That permeated his conduct in everything: his lifestyle, his business practice and his relationships. Skills in his particular area of profession were secondary to character, but his strength of character was the mechanism that motivated him to become skilled.
