Five Things About...
Jeremy Nichols

Accounting, Moss Adams
15 Years of Experience

Hometown: Albany NY

What do you enjoy most about your profession?

Being able to help companies navigate the financial hurdles and questions they face and to plan for their future.  Especially in uncertain times we are able to work with companies and figure out how to best overcome whatever struggles they are facing. A good day is when we can help an owner or executive make a decision that moves the company forward.

How did you get started in your career?

A great professor at College got me introduced to accounting and what public accounting really was. Out of school I started with a CPA firm in Albany where I started working with contractors as well as a few other industries. The owner involvement and personalities in the construction industry have kept me involved for the last 15 years. Being able to see dozens of clients during each year and the differences in how each operate really makes my job interesting and hopefully gives me some valuable insight and recommendations to offer.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Learning that every person you work with or interact with has a different personality and is driven and motivated by different “things”. In our profession there are a lot of different team members we work with on our projects, and we work with a variety of companies all of which have their own teams. So being aware of different personalities and what drives everyone has been very important to me in my development over the years. It's still a work in process and probably always will be.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Golfing and running have been big for me especially the last few months. We have 3yr and 5 yr old boys who enjoy both (usually biking while we’re running) so anything we can do to get them outside to enjoy together we try to do.

What is your favorite City to visit?

New York City is a great place to visit because of the difference in feel from San Deigo, and a good reminder of how great it is to live in SoCal. I also grew up nearby and have family and friends in and around the area, so it’s always a great trip.
