Five Things About...
Project Manager, HPS Mechanical, Inc.
Years of Experience: 12 years
Hometown: Lake Morena, CA
How did you get started in your career?
I had a family member that worked here. I found out that HPS was looking for a full time office person in our growing San Diego office so I left a job that had no benefits to start this adventure and have been here ever since, wearing many hats and doing a variety of things along the way.
What project or job are you most proud of? Why?
Probably the one I’m currently on, at UCSD building housing for the campus. I’ve been here through all three phases, taking on more responsibilities along the way. It’s a proud feeling to show up to the job site every day and see what’s being created, the magnitude of the project and know I’ve had a hand in it.
What about your profession do you think would surprise people the most?
Being female, it always surprises people when I tell them I’m in the plumbing industry. They immediately think I deal with sewage. A lot of people don’t realize what’s all involved in this line of work.
What do you like to do when you aren't working?
My time is mostly spent with family and friends – camping, hiking, working out and enjoying the free time I have. I love being outdoors, going on adventures & making memories.
Do you have a personal mantra?
“Work smarter, not harder.” Although I didn’t coin it, I’m a big fan of efficiency. If I see something that could be improved upon, I’ll do what I can to make a change for the better.
