WHAT: 17th Annual San Diego ABC Craft Championship Competition
WHEN:  Saturday, December 2, 2017

  • 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. competiton
  • 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. judging & awards ceremony

WHERE:  ABC Training Academy, 13825 Kirkham Way, Poway CA 92064 

WHO:  Twenty-one San Diego County construction trade apprentices and craft trainees

WHAT:  Competitors test their craft skills to win top honors and represent San Diego in national competition

Now in its 17th year, the Associated Builders and Contractors San Diego Craft Championship Competition is the first step on the “Road to Long Beach” and the ABC National Craft Championships early next year, with numerous changes including an expanded team of six competitors chosen to advance to the national finals.

The hands-on competition is open to the public and free to attend, with a record audience expected.

In addition to the challenging test of construction craft skills, this year’s competition features:

  • Family friendly features including video displays, childrens’ games
  • Photo booth for all guests
  • Company teams cheering on their apprentices in the competition
  • Sponsor displays featuring the latest tools and equipment

The ABC San Diego apprenticeship program has a long tradition of national winners having won 21 medals in the last 16 years, including a Silver Medal in the Sheet Metal Competition by Scott Vorarach of Spring Valley representing Certified Air Conditioning in San Diego; and a Bronze Medal in Plumbing by Rolf Wachter of Jamul representing Interpipe Contracting in San Diego Vorarach also won a Safety Award.

Media coverage is invited. Competitors and judges will be available for interviews. For admittance into the competition, please check in with ABC San Diego staff on arrival.
