Award Winning Gate 5 MCRD - A & D General Contracting
Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego welcomes more visitors than any other military
base in the United States. In an average year, 262,000 people visit MCRD, many of them family
and friends attending weekly boot camp graduations. Entry Control Facility Gate 5, the
Main Gate admitting people onto MCRD San Diego, is the Marine Corps’ literal and figurative “front door.” This project therefore had multiple innovative aspects that had to be designed as an integrated and seamless solution while creating a high-visibility image for MCRD into the future.
Keeping the traditional aesthetics of the base’s vintage look within the challenging costs associated in making it possible provided the team with a demanding task. The creativity of the team and collaboration of the stakeholders kept the project on budget with the best value approach.
With over 68,000 man hours and no osha recordables, the result was a clean, non-toxic footprint for the impressive “front door” to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
The end product is a testament to the magnificent teamwork and dedication of each team member and will be experienced daily as Marine Warriors and their friends and families pass through this extraordinary facility.
