Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP)

The Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) is a safety self-audit and awards program for contractors. The Platinum level is designed to provide special recognition to Gold Level STEP Members. Applications for the Platinum level are included in the STEP application form. Members may submit applications to the San Diego Chapter office through June of each year.

To qualify for STEP Platinum, the member company must have received a Gold level in the previous year with a score of 120 or higher in the self-evaluation section of that year's application. Submittal of an OSHA 200 summary log (or equivalent log summarizing OSHA recordable events), a statement from an insurance company supporting the STEP self-evaluation score.

Platinum level achievement provides a special certificate of recognition, and serves as an automatic application for ABC's National Safety Award. Platinum achievement also includes participation in a national promotional campaign that consists of advertisements in other than ABC publications, targeting construction-service users. Step Winners average 70% fewer citations!

ABC's CURT CISE Award is CURT’s equivalent to ABC’s National Safety Excellence Award (NSEA) and is awarded each November at the CURT annual meeting.  ABC member companies routinely win this prestigious award and, as has been the case before, swept all of the constructor safety awards last year. ABC views the CURT CISE award as a validation, if you will, of our own NSEA award and of our members’ tremendous commitment to the“culture of safety.”
